Position: Business Manager - University Bands

Job Description:

Join the University of Tennessee's legendary band program as our Business Manager, where innovation meets tradition. You will play a pivotal role in overseeing the business operations of our vibrant and nationally recognized band program - including all athletic bands, concert ensembles, educational festivals, workshops, and camps. This multifaceted position requires an individual who embodies our genuine enthusiasm for cultivating a positive and forward-thinking environment. You will bring precision to managing finances, clarity to human resource policies, foresight in logistics planning, and coherence to our communications. Your ability to navigate these core areas will be key to upholding the smooth execution and growth of our programs.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Embolden the optimistic culture inherent within UT's Band programs by fostering positive experiences for students, staff, alumni, and fans.
· Assist in coordinating all activities of University Bands, including travel for athletic and concert bands, as well as managing risk for domestic and international travel.
  • Enhance our national reputation through meticulous management of prestigious band-related events such as workshops, festivals, and camps.
  • Manages all financial operations such as but not limited to purchasing, contracts, deposits, tax payments, reconcile, scholarships, budget reporting and analysis to support informed decision-making by the Director of Bands.
  • Serve as student staff payroll administrator ensuring compliance with university policies and timely processing.
  • Function as the initial point of contact for internal and external inquiries relating to University Bands.
  • Foster relationships with vendors for travel needs and activities coordination while maintaining compliance with university contract policies; coordinate with campus offices to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Process income from band related events, summer camps and student fees efficiently according to university deposit guidelines.
  • Administer scholarship awards in line with financial aid requirements ensuring students' academic progression.

Qualifications :

Required Education:

· Bachelor’s degree or 3-4 years of administrative experience in accounting, finance, music fields.

Preferred Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree or 3-4 years of administrative experience in accounting, financial, music fields within a higher education setting, collegiate or public-school band program.
  • Strong background in accounting practices.
  • Familiarity with executive-level financial and travel coordination, contract management, and event planning.
Job Skills:
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills coupled with effective communication capabilities.
  • Proven ability to multitask within a dynamic team and effectively manage timelines to hit deadlines in high-pressure environments.
  • Proficient use of Mac OS
  • Deep understanding of university policies/procedures; proficient use in IRIS & Banner systems.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Suite (Office 365 apps, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Market Range 10

Estimated starting pay $63,000 to $65,000 commensurate with education and qualifying experience.
