Position Summary:

Assumes primary responsibility for the management of department communications in promotion of its 23 sport programs and services to engage constituents and further the university's athletic brand identity. This position is responsible for the department website, the creation and distribution of social media content, live stream coordination, event communication operations. Contribute to the overall well-being of the Athletics Department by working cooperatively with the director of athletics and other administrators to coordinate, develop, and implement department-wide programs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary public relations point person for the Athletic department, working independently and with considerable judgment in the creation and dissemination of information internal and external of the campus community, including the media. Assist with the planning and execution of special events.
  • Tasked with creating various forms of written material, including game/event information, game programs, features stories, promotional material, brochures, student-athlete awards, and other items as needed.
  • Maintain the University of Puget Sound Athletics web site, assuming primary responsibility and independent discretion for the content of the intercollegiate team pages including event releases, statistical data, and program history and offerings. Assists the department director in the content development and web site maintenance for other aspects of department operations including but not limited to facilities, intramurals, external relations, summer camps, etc.
  • Manage various stats software, including Stat Crew, NCAA Live Stats, Presto. Report all game statistics to media outlets, the NWC, appropriate conference and non-conference opponents, and the NCAA. Train and supervise statistical crews in all sports.
  • Design creative content for social media outlets; update social networking sites related to Puget Sound Athletics. This includes graphics, photography and video content.
  • Assists with supervision of student workers assigned to event management (including sports information) in the Athletics Department.
  • Coordination of live streaming production and operations including technology and equipment oversight, and coordination with vendors and broadcasters.
  • Coordinate all photography and videography needs of the department including capturing event images, post-game interviews, student-athlete media days, special events, etc.
  • Collect and maintain sports program history, including records, statistics, and photography and videography records for archival purposes.
  • Collaborates with campus partners including marketing and communications, Student Affairs, Enrollment

    Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including application of AP writing style
  • A working knowledge of sports, particularly soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, track & field, swimming, baseball/softball, and lacrosse.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite programs, and various live stats programs (Stat Crew, Presto, NCAA Live Stats).
  • Proficient in managing athletics website hosts.
  • Ability to independently make sound judgment in managing multiple programs with competing priorities, including leading and mentoring student staff.
  • Understanding of NCAA Division III and its commitment to the academic success of student-athletes and the positive role athletics as a portion of the college experience.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, sports administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years in a sports-related field preferred
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The range for this position is $66,000 - $70,000 annually. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

    -Positions that work less than .75 FTE (1,560 hours per year) do not qualify for long-term disability or education benefits.

    -Temporary positions that work at least .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will be eligible for benefits.

    This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
