Job Description

The mission of the Music Department at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) is to inspire and deliver a well-rounded education for performers, composers, scholars, teachers, and the university community with instruction necessary for success in a variety of music careers, entrepreneurship, and life-long learning. Our Music Department is committed to teaching, research/creativity, and public service. In addition to its role of advancing knowledge as part of a comprehensive research university, the Music Department advances the University's land grant tradition by enhancing the cultural life of the St. Louis metropolitan area, providing high quality and accessible educational experiences in music. We serve music majors in BA, BME, BM and MEd (Music Emphasis) degree programs and are a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

We currently seek a new colleague to join our talented, dynamic, and dedicated faculty in the position of Applied Voice Instructor and Director of Vocal Studies. In this role, you may teach Applied Voice, Opera/Music Theatre Workshop, Diction, and other courses that align with your expertise. In addition, you will be expected to pursue research or creative works in vocal performance as well as actively participate in student recruitment and professional service and outreach.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate (or ABD) in Vocal Performance, Vocal Pedagogy, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated record as a vocal soloist.
  • Demonstrate record of pedagogic excellence
Preferred qualifications:
  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Experience teaching diverse and genres
  • Experience supporting the success of students from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.
Anticipated Hiring Range
  • Assistant Professor, full-time, tenure track, salary commensurate with experience.
  • Nine-month academic appointment in the Department of Music, College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to commence August 15, 2024
