Job Description Summary:
A Post-Doctoral Fellowship is immediately available at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) in Kansas City, KS under the direct mentorship of principal investigator (PI) Katherine A. Waugh PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology (CBP). This is a full-time salaried position that will occasionally necessitate work during evenings and weekends. Salary range is $50,000 - 65,000, commensurate with skills, experience, and available laboratory funds.

Individuals passionate about relevant biomedical research are encouraged to apply. An overview of the research program can be found on following the laboratory website: https://www.kumc.edu/kwaugh.html and includes keywords of inflammation, maternal immune activation, placenta, Down syndrome, as well as “developmental origins of health and disease.”

Within this research program, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will spearhead incorporation of placenta studies into our broader research program. More specifically, the selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment to drive development of projects that relate to the placenta using diverse human and animal model systems to translationally pursue maternal immune activation and Down syndrome (details below).

The nature of this work therefore requires a willingness to perform animal research responsibly and respectfully, including but not limited to mouse husbandry, handling, injections, oral gavage, imaging, cognition/behavior assays, euthanasia, and tissue collection.

Lastly, this laboratory is housed in a modern research space with access to state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC community.
