Assistant Professor - Applied Saxophone and Bands

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with directing the SEMO Marching Band
  • Organize/Direct the SEMO Show Band and leadership program
  • Teach applied lessons to undergraduate saxophone students
  • Lead weekly saxophone studio class
  • Team-teach Woodwind Techniques
  • Supervise music education students in field placements and student teaching assignments as needed
  • Manage equipment inventory
  • Actively participate in recruitment and retention efforts on- and off-campus
  • Participate in Professional Growth as defined in the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines
  • Participate in Service to the University and profession as defined in the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines


Required Qualifications


  • Doctorate or ABD in saxophone performance, conducting, or music education completed by August 1, 2024. A minimum of a master's in saxophone performance is required. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university)
  • Minimum of 3 years PK-12 teaching experience. Experience teaching at the collegiate level is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience (elevated profile or promising trajectory) as a saxophone performer with an interest in classical, jazz, and commercial styles
  • Demonstrated experience working with marching and/or pep bands, including instrument equipment management and/or administrative duties
  • Demonstrated peer-reviewed creative activity or research
  • Demonstrated strong written and/or verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students and a commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
  • Demonstrated commitment to recruiting and retaining students
