7-12 Social Studies Teacher
The Shenandoah Community School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of 7-12 Social Studies Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.
This position works with Middle School and High School Level.
Candidates must have or be able to obtain a valid teaching license through the Iowa BOEE.

Position Summary: To create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for students, in accordance with each pupil's ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Reports to: Building Principal
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
•Current Iowa teaching certificate through the Iowa BOEE
•Endorsement in content area through the Iowa BOEE

Duties and Responsibilities
•Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
•Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
•Translates lesson plans in learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
•Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
•Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
•Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress
•Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems
•Creates and effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
•Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
•Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records
•Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the working day as assigned
•Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs
•Participates in curriculum development programs as required
•Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
Evaluation: Teachers will be evaluated based on the Iowa Teaching Standards and Criteria. Board policy states that new and probationary licensed employees will be evaluated at least twice each year.
