SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Production Lead is responsible for assisting the department manager in providing leadership required to achieve the objectives of the department. The Lead will assume all duties of the department manager when absent, with the exception of employee evaluations.
The Production Lead works as a part of either an assembly or support team performing multiple duties for the construction of windows and/or doors. The team member's assigned team and job tasks will vary based on business necessity.
• Flexibility of work hours including mandatory overtime when business needs require.
• Regular, dependable attendance consistent with attendance guidelines is required.
• Ability to learn and rotate to three (3) or more different responsibilities and/or positions
• Ability to communicate in a concise, polite and respectful manner with team members.
• Meet takt time with productivity goals with accuracy and quality.
• Operate equipment/tools that require close control, adjustment and following production orders.
• Comply with safety, quality and production requirements and procedures.
• Able to safely work with and around moving equipment.
• Ability to learn and perform repetitive job tasks.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
• Perform Total Productive Maintenance duties.
• Maintain good housekeeping.
• Ability to move between different lines and responsibilities.
• Establish and implement safe operating practices for all team members and enforce policies to ensure safe work habits are developed.
• Assist with new equipment safety inspections and keep required documentation available.
• Help establish and educate all team members concerning quality workmanship.
• Provide support to the quality department staff in achieving high quality standards in all areas.
• Provide leadership that will utilize the talents of all team members.
• Coach and mentor team members regarding safety, quality, and productivity to achieve department goals.
• Look for improvement opportunities for the area.
• Daily contact with all levels of management.
• Continuously seek development and growth opportunities as they become available to maintain the skills required at the existing levels and in preparation for new opportunities within Pella Corporation.
• Minor troubleshooting and equipment repair.
• Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Manufacturing-related experience is preferred.
• Job specific experience is preferred.
• Desired classes include: Blueprint reading, quality gauges, process technology, product knowledge and computer skills.
SKILLS & TALENT
•Decision making/problem solving in a manufacturing environment with minimal supervision.
•Use of hand tools and machinery is required.
•Requires written and oral communication skills and the cognitive ability to learn the safety, quality, and productivity standards.
•Learn, comprehend and implement Lock Out/Tag Out and safety and quality procedures to assure the safe and proper operation of the equipment.
•Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's using units of American money.
•Familiarity with American units of measure for weight, time and distance.
•Read and interpret blueprints.
•Use of measurement devices.
•Ability to make precise, timely decisions under very stressful conditions.
