Oakdale Irrigation District is seeking passionate and skilled employees to protect and develop water resources for the benefit of our community by providing excellent irrigation and domestic water service.  We serve over 80,000 acres of prime agricultural farmland in Stanislaus County, and an additional 77,700 acres within our sphere of influence.  The District provides surface irrigation (raw) water to over 2,900 connections and supplies domestic water to over 700 customers.

We are looking for a full-time Distribution System Operator / Construction and Maintenance Worker in our Water Operations Department.  

Salary:  $31.14 - $37.85 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.  This position incorporates two job classifications and duties for the District. During the irrigation season this position operates under the Water Operations Department as a Distribution System Operator and during the non-irrigation season operates under the Construction and Maintenance Department as a Construction and Maintenance Worker. Job duties for each classification are summarized as follows:

Distribution System Operator: Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the scheduling and distribution of irrigation water to irrigators; perform minor repair work in, on and around irrigation works including cleaning and maintenance of irrigation canals, ditches, and structures. Employees will work a twelve (12) hour shift and may be assigned to work either the day or night shift schedule. The work schedule is typically seven (7) consecutive workdays, and seven (7) consecutive days off throughout the irrigation season commencing at either 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m., concluding at 5:30 a.m.

Construction and Maintenance Worker:  Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the construction, repair, cleaning, and maintenance of irrigation canals, ditches, pipelines, pump lines, and structures; and to perform other duties as assigned.  Employees may be assigned an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) consisting of either a 4/10 or 9/80 schedule. 

Experience:  Knowledge of general construction and maintenance in the construction, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of irrigation facilities.  A farming background is desired, but not a requirement.  

Education:  Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write in English and perform mathematical computations at the level required for successful job performance. 

Requirements:  A valid California driver’s license with a good driver’s record is required.
