The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), Rolla, Missouri, seeks an outstanding and visionary leader for the position of the Chair of the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CArEE).

About the Department

Missouri S&T's CArEE Department, with 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 25 total faculty, positively impacts society through ground-breaking research and high-quality graduate and undergraduate education spanning a legacy of over 150 years. The CArEE department's research awards exceeded $8.0 M in 2022-23. The department has over 800 students across the three-degree programs. The department enjoys strong support from alumni and corporate partners with seven endowed professorships. Recent fundraising resulted in a $7.5-million expansion for the Clayco-Advanced Construction and Materials Laboratory, which opened in 2021.

The CArEE department and programs are highly ranked in US News and in the World University Rankings (Shanghai rankings). Research thrusts in the department align with stated campus investment areas of Infrastructure Resilience, Smart Systems, Sustainable Energy, Minerals, and Resources. Additionally, the department is home to the Missouri Center for Transportation Innovation (MCTI) and additional equipment and facilities are available through active leadership and participation in S&T's Research Centers: Center for Research in Energy and Environment, Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies, Center for Intelligent Infrastructure, and the Materials Research Center. Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Outstanding organizational leadership and administration experience.
  • Outstanding track record of excellence in teaching and research.
  • Demonstrated support of individuals (faculty, staff and student) with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
  • Experience with collaborative and multidisciplinary research and education programs.
  • Familiarity with institutional dynamics to manage growing academic and research programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage program constituencies.
  • Experience with university advancement initiatives and corporate development affairs.
  • Understanding of national and global trends in civil, architectural, and environmental engineering and related fields.
  • Candidates must also demonstrate a willingness to expand and promote Missouri S&T toward R1 Carnegie University Classification status.
