Position Summary:

The Department of Construction Management in the Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants who can:
  • develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management;
  • specialize in a scholarly area that addresses topics applicable to the construction industry and engage in research and scholarly activities (e.g., conference presentations, book chapters, publications, research grants, etc.);
  • advise undergraduate and graduate students;
  • contribute to Department, College, and University level committee work;
  • participate in community service;
  • engage in student-related activities such as supervising student projects, advising student clubs, coaching teams for student competitions, etc.;
  • build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners to ensure the continued growth of construction management education at Fresno State;
  • and demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Overview:

The Department of Construction Management in the Lyles College of Engineering, California State University, Fresno, offers an accredited Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program through the American Council of Construction Education. The department also offers a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies, a Master of Science in Construction Management, and a Minor in Construction Management. The Department of Construction Management is one of the fastest-growing departments on campus and is well known for curricular innovation, service learning, and industry engagement which provides opportunities to its diverse study body. The BSCM program provides practical experience through embedded service learning and a mandatory, credit-based internship program that successfully prepares all students for jobs at graduation. The department has a rich history of collaborating with construction companies throughout the nation. In recent years, the department successfully secured national, regional, and local grants to conduct applied research. The department seeks candidates who will help achieve its mission to develop character, build leaders, sustain learning, and continue the growth of the department in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications:

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent):
  1. A doctorate degree in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution (the degree must be completed by August 1st, 2024), AND three or more years of professional experience in construction or a construction-related field,

    OR

  2. A master's degree in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution (the degree must be completed by August 1st, 2024), AND five or more years in construction or a construction-related field.

Required Qualifications:

Specialization in one or more scholarly areas related to the construction industry, as well as a demonstrated ability and commitment to teaching at the university level and engaging in scholarly activities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Earned doctorate in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, or related field from an accredited institution.
  3. A construction-related specialization; which can include but is not limited to Construction Planning, Scheduling and Project Control, Design/Build Management, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Lean Construction, Data Analytics, and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Construction.
  4. Undergraduate- or graduate-level teaching experience.
  5. Experience leading project design and/or construction in the U.S. or internationally.
  6. Experience developing and leading external research grants.
  7. Experience publishing academic and professional works.
  8. Professional certifications (CCM, DBIA Professional, LEED AP, PMP, etc.) or licensures (PE, RA, etc.) related to the construction industry
